Gai Jatra 2078/2021: Information, Wishes & Images

Gai Jatra (गाई जात्रा) is one of the old and traditional festivals in Nepal celebrated mainly in Kathmandu valley by the Newar community.

Gai denotes Cow & Jatra denotes festival in the Nepali language. And in Nepal Bhasa(Newari language) is called Sah Paru(सा पारु)

Gai Jatra is normally observed in the month of Bhadra (August–September). The date is set according to lunar Nepal and falls on the first day of the dark four nights of the month of Gunla.

Gai Jatra festival has its own importance where people commemorate the death of loved ones. Gai Jatra is also called the festival of dancing, singing, mirth, and laughter. As part of the festival family members of the deceased of the past year send people mostly children. dressed as cows to parade on the streets.
