Mata Tirtha Aaunshi(आमाको मुख हेर्ने दिन) is an auspicious festival celebrated in Nepal by Hindu religion people. This festival is one of the biggest festivals in Nepal which is also known as Mother’s Day in Nepal.
According to Hindu calendar Mata Tirtha Aaunshi falls on the month of Baisakh (April/May).
माता तीर्थ औंसी – आमालाई सम्मान गर्ने दिन वैशाखकृष्ण अमावस्यालाई हिन्दु संस्कृतिमा आमाको मुख हेर्ने दिन मानिन्छ ।
It is called Mata Tirtha Aunshi because it falls in the time of dark moon’s time. The meaning of Mata is Mother and Tirtha means pilgrimage.
On this auspicious day, people worship their living mother, give gifts and take blessings. People who don’t have a mother or passed away go to the Matatirtha place located in Kathmandu.
